Singapore upcoming MRT stations will have around triple the number of bicycle parking, according to a parliamentary report.
Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State for Transport stated that a minimum of 100 to 300 parking space for bicycle will be granted at new MRT stations, while a number from 40 to 100 will be provided at older stations.
Currently, Singapore has 2 major MRT lines that are under construction, which are the Thomson-East Coast Lines (TEL) and Downtown (DTL).
Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) is extending the number of parking spaces for bicycle at older stations progressively, starting to MRT stations with the most intense shortage. The Land Transport Authority will also be looking for powers to order bicycle parking standards for commercial, residential and community developments.
This latest plan from LTA follows an announcement last 3 May that every developers must submit a Walking and Cycling Plan (WCP) for their upcoming projects start from July.
