Over 30 households succeeded in applying flats which are all covered by Fresh Start Housing Scheme, launched December 2016, said, Lawrence Wong, the Second Minister and the Minister for National Development in his update on facebook account, December 5, Tuesday.
The system motive is to assist families who have at least one child under 16 and who occupied a public rental flat to acquire a flexi flat with two rooms.
With the new scheme, each qualified family can purchase a two-room of flexi flat for a short-term lease, which s considered practical and affordable contrary to a normal 99-year lease. Also, they can avail the Fresh Start Housing Grant as high as $35,000 payable for 60 to 65-year leasehold and take up a concessionary loan of HDB.
All in all, there are 56 families have enjoyed the scheme and are starting to shift to be a homeowner, told by Mr. Wong. Out of fifty-six families, Thirty- Three among them have applied successfully, he further added.
The scheme imposes prerequisites like at least the applicant must be worked for 12 months with a gross income of not more than $6,000. The candidate family will be put under ocular investigation by the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Mr Wong said, ” Madam Kalaivani along with her family is expected to get the keys to their house early month of 2018. I wish the whole family best of luck for their brand new home ownership journey.”
