Jurong Lake District

The Jurong Lake District (JLD) will undergo an ambitious overhaul by the Singaporean government to become a model of sustainable living. Desmond Lee is the Minister of National Development.

According to Desmond Lee, the government sees the JLD as a paradigm for sustainable urban living in addition to being the biggest business area outside of the city center. He stated the goal of the government for the master developer to play a crucial part in organizing and spurring the development of the Jurong Lake District.

A big step forward in the district’s development was made with the recent release of a 6.5-hectare white site by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). The southern Jurong Lake District area of this site, which consists of three separate parcels of land, is positioned to develop into Singapore’s second CBD.

Approximately 1,700 residential apartments, 146,000 square meters of office space, and an additional 73,000 square meters set aside for retail, food, drink, entertainment, and other uses are all part of the development plan for this site. 600 private dwelling units, 70,000 square meters of office space, an early childhood development center, a supermarket, and a food court will all be included in the first stage of construction.

In particular, the idea and price revenue tender technique will be used to assess proposals for the development of this site, necessitating that tenderers submit their concept proposals and tender prices separately.

We have great expectations for the JLD to be a demonstration location for sustainable living, mixed-use and residential, Desmond Lee stressed. This CBD, Singapore’s second, serves as a crucial demonstration place for us. We will implement innovative technologies and urban design for car-lite cities and central district cooling in a portion of Singapore that will achieve net zero energy status before the rest of the nation by 2045.

The URA has also provided detailed plans for the region, which include the location that was initially chosen as the high-speed rail’s terminal between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. An vast network of elevated, ground-level, and subterranean pedestrian linkages will make it possible for future residents and tourists to easily access amenities, green areas, and public transportation hubs, all of which are within a 10-minute walk, bicycle ride, or public transportation journey.

Desmond Lee said when questioned about the high-speed rail plan, “We’ll have to wait and see. If the project is to be restarted between Singapore and Malaysia, the Malaysians will need to raise money for it.

Singapore’s dedication to forward-thinking urban development and environmental responsibility is shown by the Jurong Lake District’s metamorphosis into a showpiece for sustainable living and a growing economic centre.
