Northpoint CityYishun was named after Lim Nee Soon. It was first a pineapple and pepper plantation then later developed into a residential town where HDB flats are built. Yishun was actually one of the first HDB towns that were developed in 1980s under the project: Yishun New Town Project.

The Yishun New Town Project allocated 907 hectares of land for both industrial and residential use but later on expanded the coverage to 919 hectares. The work for this project started in 1977. Ten years later, the Yishun Bus Interchange opened.

By 1996, the government introduced its plan to redevelop or upgrade the facilities of Yishun. The plan includes the enhancement of shopping areas, improvement of hawker stalls and creation of wider parking lots. This year also marked the announcement of Urban Redevelopment Area (URA) to sell land parcels in Yishun for low to medium-rise private houses.

From then on, developments came popping out of Yishun, starting at the town center, In 2007, Yishun was selected as one of the three pilot towns that will be renovated under the ROH or Remaking Our Heartland Plan.

The 2014 URA Master Plan has revealed exciting changes and developments within Yishun. For the next five years, the estate is expected to have new hawker centers, better shopping malls, integrated cycling paths, safer transport infrastructure, and Three-Generation (3G) flats for multi-generational families with the upcoming Northpoint City.

Today, there are countless housing projects that are being implemented in Yishun (may it be private or government). New condos, Built to order flats and even Executive Condos are now rampant in this estate. More projects are expected in the area due to the support of the government. In no time, Yishun will become one of the most populated towns in the country!

One of the newest projects this year at Yishun is North Park Residences. This project is developed by Fraser Centerpoint Homes and will contain a good mix of residential and commercial units. It will actually enclose 12 blocks of 10-storey high buildings. Aside form North Park residences, Symphony Suites is another project that set to launch in Yishun.
