A new regulation will be enforced in Singapore after June 2018. According to this regulation, smoke detectors will be mandatory in all new homes.
“Even though Singaporeans were asked to install fire alarms and fire extinguishers in their home since a long time, home owners did not take much interest in the voluntary installation,” says Benedict Koh, who is associated with Fire Safety Managers’ Association in the capacity of a President.
The need for smoke detectors

The smoke detecting device will cost between $60 and $80. The home owners will have to pay extra $50 to install the device. In order to find out the households who need financial assistance to install smoke detectors, the officials will work in tandem with grassroots leaders. That is according to the Singapore Civil Defense Force.

Basically, each room should have one smoke detector, except in the kitchen (that is to avoid false smoke detection while cooking). Nevertheless, because of financial burden involved in the installation of one smoke detector per room, it has been recommended that home owners install at least one smoke detector in their home.

When there is a fire, never panic, instead stay calm. Inform the members and ask them to vacate. Shut the door of the room where there is fire. This will contain a fire for a while and even give you enough time to vacate the home. When you are vacating, used stairs instead of life, call fire depart. Don’t think about your belongings, you and your family members’ life matter most. Don’t go back to the house before the firemen give green signals.
If you have a fire extinguisher in your home, you can use it to contain the fire. However, if the fire is too big or you are not confident about containing fire without hurting yourself, avoid using it. When the fire is big, there will be a lot of smoke and smoke will hinder breathing. Therefore don’t rush to contain the fire with a fire extinguisher or water. When the fire is too big, you need to vacate immediately.
