Sengkang siteSengkang site at Fernvale Link received 4 bids for the development of a Chinese temple, 3 months after the latest tender was announced following controversy concerning an intend to build a columbarium.

The second tender for the land parcel at Fernvale Link closed last 4 Aug and receive only 4 bids from non-profit organisations. The result came after the protest of residents opposing for the planned development of a commercial columbarium.

Newest bidders for the Sengkang site are Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association, Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society and Taoist Peng Hong Association.

The 2,000 sq m plot of land was formerly awarded to Life Corporation’s subsidiary Eternal Pure Land, a funeral service firm that planned to operate both a columbarium and Chinese temple at the site.

The tender was cancelled last May this year after the complaint and when re-tender was offered in June, a new conditions was made in place indicating that only groups of religious people were allowed to bid.

Sengkang land parcel meant for columbarium is located close to Singapore Property such as Rivertrees Residences and High Park Residences.
