
The Singapore Mass Rapid Transport (SMRT), Land Transportation Authority (LTA), and Singapore Bus Service (SBS) Transit announced in a joint release on January 7 that as of December 31, new buses and new bus routes were added to serve for the public transport network. It totalled to 760 buses that are under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme and it will set out its new bus routes in the Marine Parade, Yishun and Eunos areas by March. They added that a new SBS Transits 382 route was launched on January 3 to serve the numerous housing developments within the area of Punggol West and that more new bus routes will be announced later.
SMRT, LTA and SBS also stated that the operators already added 90 weekly trips to deal with peak hours during the fourth quarter of year 2015 on top of the 80 additional weekly bus trips on peak hours which was added by the Singapore Government on that same period. Seven additional buses were also utiltized and deployed to improve its five bus services during peak hours in the morning and evening on the fourth quarter of 2015.
The SMRT and SBS Transit further mentioned that they have enhanced their 132 bus services by utilizing on higher capacity buses to serve the commuting public.They are also adding more bus trips along those areas that are experiencing heavy and challenging transportation service during the peak hours.
On October and December 2015, seven new bus transit services were launched. They are the SBS Transits’47,117,118, and 258. This also includes the City Direct Service (CDS) 664 and 665 and SMRTs’ 979. Under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) two existing bus transit services were also extended. They are the SBS Transit Service 49 and the SMRT Service 983 which brings down the total number of new bus services to 54.
Residential developments in the area will be best served with this latest improvement such as the Northpark Residences and the Symphony Suites. These are among the few residential areas at Yishun that provides the most exquisite living experience to its residents.
