Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong led the groundbreaking ceremony last 20 March. The event is for three projects in Hougang to revitalise the waterways under ABC Waters Programme of Public Utilities Board (PUB).
Spanning approximate 2.2 km, starts at Hougang Avenue 4 (intersection) end at Hougang Avenue 10, then extend from Sungei Pinang and end to Serangoon Reservoir.
The area from Hougang Ave 4 to Buangkok Drive, and 1.3 km portion of canal on Hougang Avenue 10, will experience more greenery.
Moreover, the pedestrian bridge in Hougang Avenue 10 at Block 458 will be improve and redeveloped into a deck to connect the bus stop with housing blocks.
While at Sungei Pinang, there will be a pedestrian bridge connecting nearby amenities with housing estates, and will planted more greenery measuring about 700 metres along the riverbank.
And for Serangoon Reservoir, an approximate 200 metre long will be enhance to a new recreational spaces and community, such as new fishing spot and viewing decks.
Development of all 3 projects are due to be completed by year 2018. About 20 ABC Waters programme are expected to be completed across Singapore in the next five years.
