Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the commencement of work for the new Canberra MRT station along the North-South Line last 26 March.
The upcoming Canberra station is located between Yishun and Sembawang stations along Canberra Link, it will serve the commuters of nearby residents in Parc Life EC and The Brownstone EC, also to other upcoming residential project in the vicinity.
In mid-2015, the $90 million contract of Canberra MRT station was awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd (Singapore).
According to LTA, when Canberra station opens in 2019, travelling time towards the Jurong East and city centre will reduce up to 10 minutes.
To enhance accessibility and facilitate commuter movement, the new station is designed having 5 entrances, one is connected across Canberra Link to the new housing estates. Canberra station also enclosed linkways to bicycle parks and bus stops.
