Singapore- The government will now be supplying flats under their Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS). It will be 800 flats that are well suited for new couples or fiancés. Towns like Queenstown and Bukit Merah will be taking part in this development.
According to Khaw Boon Wan, the National Development Minister, the government is redeveloping or refitting flats with three bedrooms only- away from the traditional 5 bedrooms. These refitted flats will be available by next year 2015.
To reduce the expenses of couples over rentals, the government allowed them to co-rent and/or co-pay for this type of flat. This scheme allows couples to avail a smaller flat with only 3 bedrooms. Actually, there are vacant flats available today that are this small but they are only limited- around 1,150 PPHS flats to be exact. So, for those who need to avail this refitted flat, they can start booking one by next year.
By history, the PPHS commenced last year (2013). It was pursued to provide young couples, eligible married couples, widowed persons (with children), divorced persons (with children) and fiancé couples with a suitable space for living. They were also extended to those who have SBF units (sale of balance flats) or uncompleted build-to-order flats.
