Construction for Singapore Tuas Terminal first phase project has officially begun, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced.
The terminal will be constructed in 4 phases for more than 30 years, reclamation work for Phase 1 is due to be finished by the early 2020s.
When completed, the new Tuas Terminal located close to the Republic’s industrial center, could eventually manage 65 million TEUs cargo yearly, which is almost double what Singapore handled in year 2014.
The Tuas Terminal Phase 1 project is a testament of commitment for Singapore to retain its lead being a global maritime nation, and make timely investment in port infrastructure to enhance Singapore's position as global hub port, Chief executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Mr Andrew Tan stated last April 28.
Mr Tan also added that Tuas Terminal will boast innovative features, underground and above ground spaces will be used for maritime as well as associated industries including storage.
