MacPherson is a community in Singapore’s Central Region, namely in the district of Geylang. It is located between the Aljunied and Paya Lebar neighborhoods and generally corresponds to a subzone with the same name in the Geylang Planning Area.
Public housing developments clustered around Circuit Road and an adjacent industrial zone make up the bulk of MacPherson. There is a private housing estate along MacPherson Road and a public housing estate along Circuit Road, both of which are separated by the Pelton Canal that traverses the neighborhood.
MacPherson is one of the first and largest public housing projects in the United States, dating back to the 1950s and was mostly populated by senior citizens into the 1970s. Therefore, several establishments in MacPherson cater to those using wheelchairs or who are of advanced age.
However, several built-to-order (BTO) public housing complexes are either under construction or in the planning stages; these developments are designed for freshly formed families and have names like MacPherson Spring and MacPherson Weave.
